Title: Extremely Impressive- I didn’t think they’d be as good as they are!
Review: I got these as a lower-cost replacement for the 1st generation AirPods Pro that I had used for a few years (before one of the pods finally met its unfortunate demise), and I’d say they’re just about as good all-around as those were. The fact that these are a quarter of the price of the AirPods Pro is certainly astounding, and I’m legitimately very impressed. I have always thought highly of Anker/Soundcore’s products, but I bought these for $36 (on sale) and certainly did not expect them to be THIS good LOLSound quality: While the sound quality is not quite as good as the AirPods Pro, I found the smart EQ feature on the Soundcore app to be EXTREMELY helpful in getting the p40i earbuds to sound much better. The noise-cancellation of these p40i is also comparable to that of the AirPods Pro 1st gen in my opinion, given that you fit them properly into your ears (and I’m often in a noisy environment). I am happy with the way these sound; I own an expensive pair of over-the-ear headphones and I am generally picky about sound. When I do wear earBUDS though, I am not super super picky, and I just want something that can (1) be easily connected to my device (2) have long battery life (3) be durable, water-resistant. Basically, for earbuds, I’m looking for a workhorse, and these do the job while sounding excellent for the price!Battery life and Durability: I wear these earbuds A LOT (I can hear street noise inside my house at all hours, and wearing earbuds helps me to focus); while walking, exercising, cleaning, cooking, and also while showering (when I am not submerging my head in water of course), and the p40i have been perfect for all of those! The battery life is incredible, even after months of daily use- the battery life of the p40i is definitely better than that of the 1st gen AP Pros (which struggled to maintain even 2 hrs use even when fully charged after 2 yrs). They are definitely water-resistant and durable as well, having survived multiple instances of light water exposure and multiple drops. I have not kept the case in any sort of protector, and there are essentially no visible scratches on the exterior (again, this is another category in which the p40i offers better performance in my opinion than Apple’s airpods).Connectivity + conclusion: I used to think only Apple products could connect so seamlessly to my iPhone (which is a major selling point of Apple’s Airpods), but these p40i changing my mind! 98% of the time, I am connecting these to my iPhone 14. Connection is seamless, and I have only had to fully re-pair my phone and the p40i once in 5 months of ownership (pairing is also incredibly easy). Also, I have a Dell laptop and a Surface Pro (Windows OS), and the connectivity between my computers and the p40i is a much nicer experience than that of my computers and the Apple AirPods.Conclusion: Honestly, I will not be buying any AirPods device again because of the experience I have had with the p40i- although Airpods work great and are nice, I’ve accepted that earbuds in general just won’t last forever with daily use, so it doesn’t make sense to spend over $100 on them. In 2-3 years when I’m ready for new earbuds, I will likely buy one of Soundcore’s more expensive models as I am truly impressed with the overall quality of these budget-friendly p40i earbuds!

Title: P40i vs Liberty 4 NC vs JBL Vibe Beam
Review: I ordered 3 different earbuds all within a similar price range(+\- $30) to figure out which one I liked the most – Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, P40i, and JBL Vibe Beam. Here are my notes and comparisons.The Liberty 4 NC is my favorite but there is one aspect I don’t like.They Liberty’s are very clear with good bass and their app allows you to customize EQ settings which is deal breaker for me. (All three pairs have custom EQs within their respective apps). The noise cancellation is great, comparable or even better than AirPros 2 and the fit is superb and on par with the P40i.The JBL Vibe was less comfortable but more so than JBL Tune(ordered these a while back). The JBL Vibes are not noise canceling and I knew that before hand so I’m not knocking it.The JBLs are fine for the price point but not the best for quality as they use 8mm drivers vs 11mm drivers for the Soundcore.The one thing I don’t like with the Liberty’s is the slightest white noise I get when between songs or silent parts. The P40i’s don’t have that problem. The P40i have great bass and fit just as well but they lack in higher frequencies and that’s important for audiophiles. The P40i also have a much friendlier app interface with many more preset features. BUT the Liberty’s have an option to set up your “ideal listening EQ” and that is a great feature as it adjusts to your preferred sound through samples and takes the guess work out.Overall the Liberty 4 NC’s took the cake with respect to comfort and sound quality. To me, it was worth the extra $. I can’t speak on longevity as I received all three and have been testing them individually the past couple days.

Title: Underperformed in fit and battery
Review: Did not meet my expectations. I was hoping for a pair of noise cancelling earbuds that could travel comfortably with me on an airplane and be worn a minimum of 3hrs w/o discomfort. I tried several tips, but in the end, ear/fit discomfort settled in within 90 minutes. Additionally, I was surprised at the battery burn rate which did not appear to be on pace for 12 hours. If I had to guess, with ANC at “full,” the battery life was going to end around 7-8hrs based on the % earbud battery remaining according to the Soundcore app. As a side note, I do not believe I would recommend these buds for workouts as I doubt they will stay put in sweaty, motion-driven activities.I am a bit of an audiophile, as my job as an audio tech/engineer requires that I use higher quality headsets and IEMs (in-ear monitors) in the workplace. I also enjoy music and have purchased numerous over-the-ear, in-ear, and on-ear headphones/buds over the years. The ANC quality of these buds was decent. Not as great as over-the-ear headphones but that is to be expected. Because of the discomfort and awkward fit, I could never achieve quite the level of extended noise canceling that I hoped for without adjusting the fit of the buds in my ears every 10-15 minutes.The sound quality, however, was decent. I played with the app’s EQ settings and tuned it to exactly where I wanted for my predominant music genres (alt rock, grunge, the entire 80s minus country, metal, rap and hip hop). I was happy with the quality of the music. I did not test using these buds for calls. It was VERY EASY to pair these with my Pixel 9 phone. They seemed to stay reliably connected to my phone, although, I am seldom more than 5′ from my phone at all times.If you are looking for a pair of noise cancelling, shorter-term wear, “can afford to lose them” earbuds at a “lower than Apple” price point, these may work for you. But if you are looking for long-term comfort and battery life, these earbuds will likely fall short of your expectations. Soundcore is a decent brand. These buds just won’t work for my needs.

Review: Bought these on sale for working out. They’re comfortable for long periods of time and the battery lasts forever. Sound is superb for the price – I can control EQs with presets or fully custom options. Five different sized ear buds make these suitable for pretty much any size ear, so that was a nice addition in the package.I personally don’t like aggressive ANC, so the modest noise cancelling is great for me (RTINGS pegged it at about -8 decibels overall, although it was -13 to -14 decibels better in certain scenarios, such as airplane/office/street). I walk extensively and like to be able to hear traffic, and when working out I want to know when people are nearby so I don’t bump into anyone. Wind reduction works quite well, although isn’t perfect. Again, not a flaw for me – I’d rather have more natural sound throughput than artificial silence.Charging is fast, the case is sturdy and small, with a magnetic closure. Everything just works really well together.Bluetooth connection is quick and reliable, with a surprisingly good range. I can leave my phone in one room and wander around my home without needing to worry about interrupted music/podcasting.I highly recommend these earbuds for your daily drivers. They’re not terribly expensive (I got them on sale – $69 CAD pre-tax) so you don’t have to worry about where they are every ten seconds. Their build quality is high and their sound quality is excellent. Seriously, I have more expensive earphones and they’re currently sitting on my desk gathering dust.
